Spike Productions just published its first newsletter of the year, 2020. Would you want to subscribe? This is a periodic communication that informs our subscribers when new books are published and on sale, gives updates on how we are doing with sales, where dollars are going, and with any news on how specifically the Basketful Relief Project is impacting famine relief to those in critical need in Yemen. We promise not to inundate your inbox! Thanks for subscribing!
Spike Productions is excited to announce we are in the creative works on a new BRP children’s story called, The Pond of Reflection. This story is a fun adventure fairy tale about a king’s daughter, (where the mighty and beloved king just happens to be a mouse), who rides off on her father’s steed on a quest to discover who she is. On her journey she befriends a toad and an owl who tell her about a legendary pond hidden deep within the forests of the king’s realm called The Pond of Reflection. Venturing on together, they learn about themselves and each other searching for this secret place.
Spike Productions is delighted to team up with Boulder artist Brooke Connor of Brooke Connor Design to illustrate this fun coming-of-age story.
Catherine Russell is a videographer who lives in Lyons, CO on a hobby farm with her husband, Ed and several fun farm animals, including two burros named Nikki and Norman. Not only does Catherine enjoy walking with goats in the hills around her home, she desires to help fight world hunger and has founded The Basketful Relief Project, working with collaborators of all talents to publish beautiful children’s books (print and video), with percent profit proceeds going to emergency famine relief organizations.
Brooke Connor lives and works in Boulder, CO. She retired from a career as an environmental chemist after 28 years of left-brained activities, and now is a full-time right-brained illustrator. Brooke specializes in alcohol marker illustrations of birds and wildlife. Her style can be described as extremely colorful, imaginative, and whimsical. Other publications include works with her friend and author, Patricia Kittelson, including, “Bixley Baines and the Beehive Fence”, “A Kid’s Guide to Bryce Canyon”, and “Cedar Breaks for Kids”.
Sneak Preview! Check out this sample video of Brooke’s creative process in her digital illustration designing.
Happy New Year
Because of a generous donation to the BRP, as of January 8, 2020 both books: The Little Book of Why and Get to Bed! have met their publishing cost goal. Spike Productions is grateful and we in turn have kicked off the 2020 new year with our own donation to the BRP Save The Children Yemen famine relief fundraising page.
Now that we have successfully covered the publishing cost of these books, two wonderful things happen!
- From now on, 85% of profit proceeds will be donated to the BRP Save The Children Yemen famine relief fundraising page continually, as long as either book sells and the fundraising page is active.
- Spike Productions will create and publish another beautiful children’s story to add to the BRP selection! An adventure fairy tale called, The Pond of Reflection is now in the works!
Here’s a review of the financials for both books since they launched in September, 2019
